The Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health is administered by a Secretariat hosted at the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Partnership is an alliance of more than 700 organizations in 77 countries from the sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health communities, as well as health influencing sectors. The Partnership provides a platform for organizations to align objectives, strategies and resources, and agree on interventions to improve maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health.

The Partnership’s role complements the work and accountability processes of its individual members, enabling them to deliver more collectively than they would alone. This Partner-centric approach mobilizes, engages and empowers different implementing partners. It allows them to coordinate their actions and activities, and encourages and promotes mutual accountability.

History: Collaboration and Progress

The Partnership was formed in September 2005, bringing together 80 members from three organizations, which included the Partnership for Safe Motherhood and Newborn Health, the Healthy Newborn Partnership and the Child Survival Partnership, with the mandate to strengthen alignment and consensus building to support the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), especially MDGs 4 and 5, calling for the reduction of under-five child mortality and maternal mortality. The Partnership focused particularly on the importance of delivering the full continuum of care spanning sexual and reproductive health needs and rights of women and adolescents, pregnancy care, safe delivery, the first weeks of life and the early years of life.

Today, the Partnership represents ten constituencies: partner countries; donors and foundations; intergovernmental organisations; non-governmental organizations; academic, research and training institutions; adolescents and youth; healthcare professional associations; private sector partners, UN agencies and global financing mechanisms. Collectively, PMNCH partners have catalysed tremendous progress over the last decade and continue to drive momentum toward improved maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health outcomes.

Our vision

A world in which every woman, child and adolescent in every setting realises their rights to physical and mental health and wellbeing, has social and economic opportunities, and is able to participate fully in shaping prosperous and sustainable societies.

Our mission

To increase the engagement, alignment and accountability of partners, by creating a multi-stakeholder platform that will support the successful implementation of the Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health, enabling partners to achieve more together than any individual Partner could do alone.
